Interpol operation on the borders of East Africa
As part of the operation coordinated by Interpol on 19-28 March in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the local border services detained persons suspected of terrorist and criminal activities. Significant amounts of explosives precursors have also been seized.
The aim of Interpol's activities in this area is to improve the ability of border services to identify potential terrorist and criminal threats on the migration route from East Africa to Europe.
As part of the campaign, 4.6 million checks were made in Interpol's databases, which showed over 700 "hits". Seven people wanted by the red Interpol mark were arrested.
Such activities confirm the need to strengthen international cooperation in the field of border controls in order to identify persons who may constitute a threat. This is a good example of preventive action by preventing potential terrorist threats at an early stage - even before arriving in the country where the perpetrator plans to attack.
