Europol warns: the overall terrorist threat to EU security remains serious
The main problem facing member states is jihadist terrorism and the closely related phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters who travel to and from conflict zones, warns Europol.
Recent attacks in the EU demonstrate the intent and ability of jihadist terrorists to inflict mass casualties in order to generate publicized terror.
Carefully planned attacks continue to demonstrate the heightened threat to the EU from an extremist minority from the Middle East, coupled with a network of EU-born and raised people, often radicalized in a short space of time, who have proved willing and able to act as intermediaries and active accomplices in terrorism.
