The EU Council set directions for the fight against radicalization in prisons

On 6th of June 2019 the EU Council adopted conclusions defining the key directions of combating radicalization in prison in EU Member States.

They reflect the expected threat from the scheduled release of a significant number of individuals who have served their sentences after being convicted for terrorism or terrorist related offences, as well as from already radicalised inmates that pose a serious security threat in the near future. Council conclusions constitute collection of the good practices in dealing with radicalisation in prisons as well as recommended toolkit to assist prison and probation staff in working constructively with inmates who may be subject to radicalization.
