The 18th European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism
On 11 March 2022, the European Commission together with the RAN Practitioners Victims of Terrorism working group will organise the 18th edition of the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism, an event commemorating the victims of terrorist attacks.
The annual event was established in the wake of the Madrid bombings of 11 March 2004, but serves to remember the victims and survivors of all attacks that have taken place in Europe since then, as well as European victims and survivors of attacks from outside Europe.
Victims of terrorist attacks often struggle with the aftermath for their entire lives. Many are unable to return to normality and feel abandoned by society. The event aims not only to give those victims the opportunity to share their experiences and their stories, but above all to show support and to show that they are not alone.
The European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism is a reminder of the need to continue to act against extremism and terrorism and to raise awareness about anti-terrorism in society.
