Strengthen Indonesia capabilities in combating CBRN terrorist threats against vulnerable targets

On October 23-25, 2023. The United Nations Office for the Suppression of Terrorism (UNOCT) held a joint strategic-level simulation exercise on countering chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) terrorist threats against vulnerable targets in Bogor, Indonesia. The event was organized in cooperation with Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Terorisme (Indonesian National Agency for Combating Terrorism).

The three-day meeting was attended by 20 participants, including representatives from member states' public administrations, law enforcement officials, critical infrastructure and public space security authorities, and private sector stakeholders. Participants discussed the current state of the terrorist threat, risk assessments, national policies and strategies, and inter-agency cooperation in the event of a CBRN terrorist attack on public space and critical infrastructure in Indonesia. The exercise was the third event in a series of technical assistance and capacity-building activities provided by the UNOCT to support the Indonesian government in strengthening the protection of sensitive targets from terrorist attacks. This is part of the implementation of the National Action Plan, or "roadmap" for Indonesia, launched by CTED and UNOCT on April 12-14, 2023.

The United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism is implementing this Program in cooperation with the Executive Directorate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTED), the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the United Nations Interregional Institute for Crime and Justice Research (UNICRI), and in consultation with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL). The program provides comprehensive technical support tailored to the specific needs and requirements of Member States.  The program aims to support Member States, international organizations and UN entities in preventing terrorists from accessing and using weapons, materials or components, and ensuring that Member States are adequately prepared for and respond to terrorist attacks using weapons of mass destruction.
