UN Security Council strengthens commitment to fight digital terrorism
A two-day meeting of the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee in India concluded with the adoption of a document committing member states to prevent and combat digital forms of terror.
The UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee met in the Indian capital from 28 to 29 October 2022. The discussion focused on three areas: the internet and social media, the financing of global terrorist networks and the malicious use of drones. After a series of panels involving representatives of member states, the private sector and academics, a non-binding document known as the Delhi Declaration was adopted which discussed the main concerns related to the of terrorists' use of digital information and communication technologies, new forms of online payments and methods of fundraising by terrorists, and the malicious use of drones. The Declaration commits member states to develop guidelines to help address the growing problem in the future.
