The UN counteracts the FTF phenomenon in the African region

The UN continues to work with priority African countries in countering terrorism, helping to prevent uncontrolled repatriation of FTFs from crisis regions or their origins.

This is supported in particular by the adjustment of the anti-terrorist activities of the Moroccan justice system to international standards. The initiative to build the capacity of local authorities in the field of investigations and court proceedings in FTF-related cases, implemented in cooperation with UNODC, is of great importance. A tangible manifestation of this are the consultation meetings organized in May and June 2021, during which international practitioners, e.g. from Great Britain conducted training on legislative challenges and procedural problems related to: identification, prosecution and prosecution of the FTF and the approach to their families, in particular women and children who have returned from crisis regions.
