TPCoE and participation in the 4th Europol Advisory Network conference in The Hague

TPCoE participated in the 4th annual conference of the ECTC Advisory Network on Terrorism and Propaganda entitled "Conceptualising Terrorism Today: Expanding the Threat or Expanding the Network?", which took place at Europol headquarters in The Hague on 14 and 15 March 2023.

The conference was scheduled over two working days. The first dealt with the current state of terrorism, in particular the increasingly blurred line between what constitutes terrorism, (violent) extremism and other forms of violence/terrorism that are not linked to identifiable organisational structures or clearly defined ideologies; and the relationship between offline and online manifestations of terrorism.

During the second day, topics oscillated around technological aspects, in particular the impact of regulation on terrorist content online and its moderation; the malicious use of current technologies such as video games or 3D printing; and the prospect of future trends in technology and their potential use for terrorist and extremist purposes, i.e. the Non-Fungible Token (NFT), among others.

The conference attracted anyone professionally involved in counter-terrorism, including law enforcement practitioners, policymakers, industry representatives and academics. Speakers at the event were experts in their field, representing as a whole a vibrant community responsible for the rapid growth of a pool of practical academic knowledge and expertise in (counter-) terrorism that can assist public entities in fulfilling their duty to keep the population safe.
