Another EU response to fight terrorism

On October 19, 2021, The EU Council extended for another year, until October 31, 2022, EU sanctions against ISIL / Daesh and Al-Qaeda and related individuals, groups, enterprises and entities.

The decision was dictated by the fact that the threat related to terrorist attacks remains high. Currently, the above-mentioned the sanctions concern those who are primarily banned from entering the EU and by the asset freeze. In addition, other EU persons and entities are not allowed to make funds and economic resources available to those on the list. In 2016, the European Union imposed repressive measures against ISIL (Daesh) and Al Qaeda for the first time.

Sanctions are preventive actions that allow the Union to react quickly to challenges and events that run counter to its goals and values. They can be the answer, among others to the potential threat from extremism or terrorism.
