TPCoE training for Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield board members
On 30 November 2022, an TPCoE expert conducted a counter-terrorism prevention training course entitled 'In the first seconds and minutes of a terrorist incident, we are all counter-terrorists', whose audience was members of the board of directors of Unibail Rodamco Westfield - one of the world's largest developers and managers of flagship shopping destinations that are an important part of the public space.
In view of the threats posed by the global geopolitical situation, the systematic strengthening of the security of large-area shopping malls is a priority, the aim of which is to preserve the continuity of the public space of facilities which, due to their vulnerability to terrorist events, belong to the so-called soft targets, whose attractiveness to the actions of potential attackers influences the need for continuous improvement and consolidation of procedures concerning their security status. Strategic action in this area requires a multifaceted approach, an important element of which is social resilience, which is derived from the educational and preventive process in the area of, inter alia, terrorist incidents.
During the training, the typology of threats was discussed and best practices were presented, including recommended conduct in the situation of a terrorist event. An officer of the Centre familiarised the listeners with the 4U! social campaign conducted by TPCoE. She discussed the issue of proper conduct in a hostage situation, as well as how to inform dedicated services about the threat.
