Cooperation between Prison Service and Internal Security Agency on terrorism prevention

On October 27, 2021, the Head of the Internal Security Agency, Colonel Krzysztof Wacławek, and the Director General of the Prison Service, Gen. Jacek Kitliński, signed an agreement on scientific and educational cooperation in the field of counteracting radicalization and terrorist threats.

The agreement stipulates that the cooperation between the services will take place in the areas of research, science, training and joint projects.

On the side of the Internal Security Agency, the Terrorism Prevention Center is to be involved in future projects.

The strategic goal of cooperation is, in particular, to counter radicalization, leading to violent extremism and terrorism in the penitentiary environment, and to eliminate the risk of reoffending into radical activity after leaving prison. For this reason, the subject of cooperation will include analysis of cases of radicalization in prisons in order to establish appropriate rehabilitation and de-radicalization programs, which will also foster effective social reintegration of prisoners in the post-penitentiary period.

The effects of the ABW and SW cooperation will also be presented during jointly organized conferences, lectures, workshops and other public events.
